Workbench Installation F.A.Q.

1. Where can I get Workbench or AmigaOS from?

You can buy and download Workbench 3.1.4 from Hyperion Entertainment.

You can purchase the Media pack from Cloanto's Amiga Forever website or from AmigaKit.

You might be able to get the older AmigaOS 3.5 CD from AmigaKit.

You can buy Workbench 1.2,1.3,3.1 or AmigaOS 3.9 CD Disc from Vesalia.

You can buy AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition from AmigaKit.

2. How do I install Workbench 1.3 from Floppy Disk (ADF) into a Directory?

3 .How do I install Workbench 2 from Floppy Disk (ADF) onto a HDF?

Follow these Step by Step Instructions.

4. How do I install Workbench 3 from Floppy Disk (ADF) onto a HDF?

5. How do I install Workbench 3.9 from CD onto a HDF?

Follow these Step by Step Instructions.

Compatibility: Amiga 1200, Amiga 4000 and earlier Amigas.
Kickstart: 3.0, 3.1
Additional Hardware: CDROM, Hard drive, 68020+, 6MB Fast Ram.

6. Where can I get updates for Workbench 3.9?

There is an update available for AmigaOS 3.9 called a Boing Bag 1 and an update for UAE.
For Boing Bag 2, you can download it from Haage & Partner (requires BB1).
There is an unofficial Boing Bag 3 with notes about bugs in previous versions.

7. Where can I find fixes for bugs in Workbench 3.9?

Go to the Workbench 3.9 site or Aminet for various fixes.

8. How do I create a bootable floppy (real or ADF)?

Boot off your Workbench disk, insert a floppy disk in DF1:, open a command Shell and type Install DF1: which will copy the book block on to the disk.
Then type MakeDir DF1:S to create the Script directory. Copy your program file(s) on the disk, preferably root or use directories if you wanted to. Then change directory to DF1:S and type Ed Startup-sequence and type in commands to load your program, usually just the name of the Program file will do.
Test the disk, by inserting the disk into DF0: and reboot the Amiga.

9. I have a Workbench disk but no Install disk, how do I install Workbench?

You can download UAEInstall disk which has the HDInstTool , DiskSalv and some AmigaDOS or Installer scripts to install Workbench for most Workbenchs including versions 1.3 to 3.1.

10. Can I install Workbench 4.x on Winuae or FS-UAE?

Yes, Winuae 3.0 and FS-UAE supports Power PC (PPC) processor emulation with the Blizzard PPC and Cyperstorm PPC boards.
